Steven A. Markow, OD
Boston native Dr. Steven Markow received his B.S. degree, cum laude from University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and his Doctorate of Optometry from the New England College of Optometry, Boston. After teaching at the New England College of Optometry, he was recruited to work at University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, which is consistently ranked as the top eye hospital in the country. Dr. Markow became Associate Professor and Department Chair of the Low Vision Clinic at Nova-Southeastern University’s School of Optometry. After 15 years in Florida, he was homesick for New England and the Red Sox, and settled in South Hadley.
Dr. Markow is very proud of the way his practice has grown to become South Hadley’s primary eye care facility. He is a supporter of many causes in the community, including the Black Cat Theater, Holyoke Civic Symphony, South Hadley Public Schools, Summer Concerts on the Common, Buttery Brook Park, South Hadley Senior Center, Neighbors Helping Neighbors Food Pantry, support of local libraries, and many other local events. Dr. Markow is a member of the South Hadley Lions Club, and past-president of the South Hadley & Granby Chamber of Commerce.
Rebecca Maurer, RDO
MA Dispensing Optician, Lic #6088
With 20 years in the optical field, Rebecca is not only a licensed optician but has experience in ophthalmic surgical assisting and is a refracting ophthalmic technician as well. With experience in low vision, vision therapy, contact lens fitting, and insurance billing, Rebecca is well versed in several aspects of the eye care field, providing a wealth of knowledge that is clearly transferable to her direct care with patients.
Rebecca is a western Massachusetts native, and lives in Ludlow with her husband and 4 children. She can be found working on home renovation projects, sewing, or at her children’s events supporting them (loudly) from the sidelines.
She looks forward to assisting you at your next visit with any and all of your vision care needs. Whether it is a simple adjustment, repair of broken glasses or ordering new eyewear, Rebecca will provide the time and attention that you need and deserve. Office Manager/Billing Specialist
Lisa has been an integral part of the Village Eye Care staff since 2015. As the office manager, she not only oversees the day-to-day office procedures, staff training and coordination, but she is also our in-office billing specialist. With 15 years of experience working with most major insurance companies, she is well versed in plan coverage, deductibles, co-insurance, vision care plan benefits, eligibility and claim billing and resolution. Lisa is always happy to answer any questions you may have about insurance, coverage, billing questions or simply scheduling an appointment for you to be seen.
Lisa and her family live in South Hadley. She and her husband enjoy the New England countryside while riding their Harley Davidson. She supports local veterans charities as well as Shriners Hospital for Children, and the American Cancer Society.
Our ophthalmic technician, Cathy is a Smith College graduate with 30 years experience performing eye examinations, contact lens examinations and assisting in LASIK and other surgical procedures.
She lives in Chicopee with her husband, two sons, and their rescue dog named Pudding. When not at work, Cathy is busy volunteering and organizing programs for Hope Worldwide Pioneer Valley Chapter, a local non-profit that serves individuals and families experiencing poverty.
